Ncell Axiata Private Limited, a leading private sector telecommunication service provider in Nepal, has made a substantial payment of NPR 4,96,45,82,191 to the government as part of its mobile service license renewal fee. This significant transaction, deposited into the Nepal Telecommunications Authority's account at Nabil Bank, Tinkune, marks a crucial step forward in Ncell's ongoing license renewal process, ensuring the continuity of its vital services across the nation.

The recent payment is meticulously structured, comprising a principal amount of NPR 4.25 billion, which accounts for a remaining installment of the renewal fee. In addition to the principal, the payment includes a substantial interest component. Specifically, NPR 64,92,60,273 has been paid as interest accrued over 328 days, spanning from Bhadra 7, 2082, to the end of Ashar, 2083. Furthermore, an additional NPR 6,53,21,917 covers interest for a 33-day period, from Shrawan 1 to Bhadra 2, 2083. This detailed breakdown underscores the financial obligations and the structured approach Ncell is taking to fulfill its regulatory commitments.

It is important to note that Ncell has been systematically addressing its renewal dues. The company had previously settled all installment and interest amounts up to Bhadra 6, 2082. Prior to this latest payment, Ncell made a payment of NPR 3.29 billion on Bhadra 6 of the previous year, following an earlier payment of NPR 2 billion on Ashar 29, 2082. These consistent payments reflect Ncell's commitment to adhering to the regulatory framework set by the government.

The government had initially granted Ncell the flexibility to pay the total NPR 20 billion mobile service license renewal fee in four installments. A key development in this arrangement occurred in Bhadra 2081, when the Council of Ministers stipulated an annual interest rate of 10 percent on any outstanding installments. Ncell had initiated its license renewal application on Jestha 14, 2081, with an initial payment of NPR 4 billion, and the subsequent installment plan was established based on government directives. The latest payment significantly advances the overall license renewal process, bringing Ncell closer to fully settling its obligations.

Beyond the immediate context of license renewal, Ncell has highlighted its extensive financial contributions to the Nepali economy. Since its inception, the company reports having contributed approximately NPR 375 billion to the government through various taxes and fees. This includes license fees, renewal charges, royalties, telecommunication service fees, income tax, and other levies. Such substantial contributions underscore Ncell's significant role as a major taxpayer and economic driver in Nepal.

Ncell's journey in Nepal's telecommunications sector began as 'Mero Mobile,' marking a pivotal moment for the entry of the private sector. The company commenced its GSM cellular mobile service operations on Bhadra 16, 2061, and has since grown to become a cornerstone of digital connectivity in the country. Its continued operation and compliance with regulatory requirements are crucial for maintaining a competitive and robust telecommunications landscape, which directly impacts millions of Nepali citizens and businesses relying on its services. This latest payment not only ensures Ncell's operational continuity but also reinforces its long-term commitment to the Nepali market and its regulatory compliance.
