Nepal Chamber of Commerce Mobilizes Extensive Relief for Bhotekoshi Flood Victims, Reinforcing National Resilience

Kathmandu, Nepal – In a significant demonstration of corporate social responsibility and national solidarity, the Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) has spearheaded a comprehensive relief operation, delivering vital supplies to communities devastated by the recent Bhotekoshi floods. This initiative underscores the critical role of apex business bodies in supporting national disaster response and rehabilitation efforts, particularly in the face of escalating climate-related challenges.

A high-level delegation from the Chamber, led by Senior Vice President and Chair of the Disaster Management Council, Mr. Deepak Kumar Malhotra, officially handed over the collected relief materials to the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, at the Nepal Police Disaster Response Training Centre in Samakhusi on Sunday. The collaborative spirit of the business community was further highlighted by the inclusion of relief items meticulously gathered by the Youth Chamber, demonstrating a multi-generational commitment to societal welfare.

The Bhotekoshi floods have inflicted widespread damage across several districts, including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading, severely impacting livelihoods, infrastructure, and the local economy. In response to this humanitarian crisis, the NCC's relief consignment was carefully curated to address immediate needs. It comprised essential food items such as beaten rice (chiura) and biscuits, alongside crucial hygiene and health supplies including sanitary pads, toothpaste, toothbrushes, gloves, and masks. Additionally, the package included T-shirts, pulses, drinking water, noodles, soap, diapers, blankets, medicines, rice, and clothing, ensuring a holistic approach to supporting affected families. This extensive distribution was carried out in close coordination with Leo District Council 325 G, Nepal, amplifying the reach and effectiveness of the aid.

The Nepal Chamber of Commerce's engagement in disaster relief is not a new endeavor but rather a consistent commitment. Following the initial devastation caused by the Bhotekoshi floods, the Chamber has been actively involved in providing emergency support and long-term assistance. Previous contributions include the provision of 17 advanced drones to the Nepal Police, significantly enhancing their search, rescue, and surveillance capabilities in challenging terrains. Furthermore, Bidur Municipality received two drones and 125 power banks, crucial for maintaining communication and operational efficiency in areas prone to power outages. Financial assistance has also been extended to district-level Chambers in the affected regions, empowering local business communities to lead their own recovery initiatives.

This sustained involvement reflects the NCC's understanding that a resilient economy is inextricably linked to a resilient society. By actively participating in disaster management, the Chamber not only fulfills its social obligations but also contributes to creating a more stable environment for businesses to operate and thrive.
