Separate Routes, Timings Set for Vehicles Traveling Between Hetauda and Kathmandu After Bhotekoshi Flood

Authorities have introduced separate routes and travel schedules for vehicles operating between Hetauda and Kathmandu following the flooding in the Bhotekoshi River, which has affected road conditions and transportation movement along key routes. According to the Nepal Police, traffic arrangements have been revised based on vehicle size and capacity to facilitate safer and more orderly movement between the two cities amid the disaster-related disruptions. Under the new arrangement, cargo vehicles and large passenger buses with up to 10 wheels traveling from Hetauda to Kathmandu will be required to use the Tribhuvan Rajpath. These vehicles will use the Kanti Rajpath while returning from Kathmandu to Hetauda. The route arrangement has been introduced to manage traffic flow and reduce pressure on vulnerable sections of the road network. Passenger vehicles traveling toward Hetauda via the Kanti Rajpath must cross the Thingan Area Police Office checkpoint in Makwanpur by 6 p.m. For small passenger vehicles with a capacity of fewer than 14 seats, authorities have designated alternative routes. Vehicles traveling toward Hetauda will use the Pharping–Fakhel–Kulekhani–Bhimphedi route. Similarly, vehicles traveling toward Kathmandu will use the Bhimphedi–Kulekhani–Sisneri–Dakshinkali road. The separate routing system is aimed at easing congestion and improving traffic safety on roads affected by the recent disaster. Police have also warned vehicles carrying fuel and other heavy cargo not to cross the Bailey bridge near Trikhandi in Makwanpur. The bridge currently has limited load-bearing capacity. Such vehicles have therefore been instructed to use the diversion constructed alongside the bridge to prevent additional structural stress and reduce the risk of accidents. Given the ongoing disaster-related situation, Nepal Police has urged the public to travel only when necessary and to exercise patience and discipline while operating vehicles on highways. Drivers have been instructed not to overtake, to maintain orderly movement according to their designated turn, and to strictly follow instructions issued by security personnel and traffic police deployed for traffic management. Authorities have emphasized that cooperation from drivers and passengers will be essential for maintaining safe and efficient transportation while road conditions continue to be affected by the aftermath of the Bhotekoshi flood.
