NEPSE Implements Share Price Adjustments for Kalinchowk Darshan, Machhapuchchhre Bank, and Global IME Balanced Fund-1
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) has officially implemented share price adjustments for two prominent companies, Kalinchowk Darshan Limited and Machhapuchchhre Bank Limited, alongside the Global IME Balanced Fund-1. This crucial adjustment, a standard procedure in the stock market, was carried out to reflect the distribution of dividends and bonus shares to eligible shareholders following their respective book closure dates. The move ensures fair trading practices and accurately reflects the intrinsic value of these securities post-corporate action.
For Kalinchowk Darshan Limited, NEPSE adjusted its share price to account for an 8.50 percent bonus share issuance. Bonus shares are essentially new shares issued by a company to its existing shareholders, free of charge, out of its accumulated profits or reserves. While the number of shares held by an investor increases, the per-share price is proportionally reduced, ensuring that the total market value of an investor's holding remains theoretically unchanged immediately after the adjustment, prior to any market movements. Following this adjustment, Kalinchowk Darshan's share price has been set at NPR 580.46. Its last traded price on Thursday was NPR 629.80 per share.
Similarly, Machhapuchchhre Bank Limited saw its share price adjusted for a 3 percent bonus share distribution. This action, much like Kalinchowk Darshan, aims to reflect the dilution of the share price due to the increased number of outstanding shares. The adjusted price for Machhapuchchhre Bank now stands at NPR 250.97, down from its last traded price of NPR 258.50 per share on Thursday. These adjustments are vital for maintaining market integrity, as they prevent arbitrage opportunities and ensure that new buyers do not pay a price that includes the value of dividends or bonus shares they are not entitled to.
In the case of Global IME Balanced Fund-1, the adjustment was made to reflect a 12 percent cash dividend payout. Unlike bonus shares, a cash dividend is a direct payment of money from the company's earnings to its shareholders. When a mutual fund distributes a cash dividend, its Net Asset Value (NAV) per unit decreases by the amount of the dividend. Consequently, NEPSE adjusted the fund's unit price to NPR 10.50, from its previous closing price of NPR 11.70 per unit on Thursday. This adjustment ensures that the market price accurately reflects the fund's assets after the dividend distribution.
The book closure date is a critical cut-off point determined by companies to identify shareholders eligible for dividends, bonus shares, or other corporate benefits. Once the book is closed, NEPSE adjusts the share price on the trading day following the book closure. This mechanism is crucial for the smooth functioning of the secondary market, allowing trading to continue without confusion regarding dividend entitlements.
Investors should note that these adjustments are purely technical and do not represent a loss or gain in their investment value at the moment of adjustment. The market price simply reflects the distribution of value. For instance, an investor holding bonus shares will have more shares, but each share will be worth less, maintaining the total value. Similarly, for cash dividends, the investor receives cash, and the share/unit price drops by a corresponding amount.
Trading for Kalinchowk Darshan, Machhapuchchhre Bank, and Global IME Balanced Fund-1 will resume on Monday, Ashoj 12, based on these newly adjusted prices. This provides investors with a clear basis for future transactions.
In related news, the Nepal Stock Exchange will observe a market holiday on Monday, Ashoj 5. Investors and traders should take note of this closure while planning their trading activities for the upcoming week. Such market holidays are typically announced for various reasons, including national festivals or other significant events, ensuring that the market operates in alignment with national observances.
This series of adjustments underscores the dynamic nature of the NEPSE market, where corporate actions frequently lead to price recalibrations. Investors are always advised to stay informed about such developments and understand their implications on their portfolios.
