NEPSE Welcomes Two New Closed-End Funds: Sanima Equity Fund II and LS Horizon 12 Now Listed, Boosting Market Diversity
Kathmandu, Nepal – The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) is set to enhance its offerings and provide investors with more diversified avenues, as two prominent closed-end mutual funds, "Sanima Equity Fund -2 (SAEF2)" and "LS Horizon 12 (LSH12)", have officially been listed. This development follows separate agreements signed today between NEPSE and the respective fund managers, Sanima Capital Limited (SANCAP) and LS Capital Limited (LSCAP). The listing paves the way for the secondary market trading of these funds, expected to commence this Thursday, offering fresh opportunities for investors looking to expand their portfolios.
The "Sanima Equity Fund -2 (SAEF2)", managed by Sanima Capital Limited, has listed a total of 125 million units on NEPSE. Each unit carries a par value of Rs. 10, bringing the total fund size to an impressive Rs. 1.25 billion. The initial public offering (IPO) for SAEF2 was successfully conducted from Baishakh 24 to Jestha 4, 2083, attracting significant interest from the general public. Investors will be able to trade these units under the ticker symbol 'SAEF2' once trading officially begins.
Similarly, "LS Horizon 12 (LSH12)", managed by LS Capital Limited, has listed an even larger volume, with 150 million units now available on NEPSE. Valued at Rs. 10 per unit, this fund represents a substantial Rs. 1.5 billion addition to the market. The IPO for LSH12 ran from Baisakh 30 to Jestha 6, 2083, also garnering considerable attention from the investing community. Its units will be traded under the symbol 'LSH12', providing another option for market participants.
The introduction of these two closed-end funds is a significant event for the Nepalese capital market. Closed-end funds, unlike open-end funds, issue a fixed number of shares through an IPO, which then trade on a stock exchange like regular stocks. This structure offers several advantages, including professional management of a diversified portfolio of securities, often at a lower expense ratio compared to actively managed individual stock portfolios. For investors, these funds provide an accessible way to gain exposure to a broad range of equities without the need for extensive individual stock research or direct portfolio management. They are particularly appealing to those seeking long-term capital appreciation and diversification benefits.
The listing of SAEF2 and LSH12 is expected to contribute positively to market liquidity and depth. It provides existing investors in these funds with an avenue to exit their positions and new investors with an opportunity to buy into professionally managed portfolios. This increased choice is crucial for the maturation of NEPSE, as a diverse array of investment products caters to different risk appetites and investment goals.
Sanima Capital Limited and LS Capital Limited, both reputable names in Nepal's financial sector, bring their expertise in fund management to these offerings. Their role in identifying promising investment opportunities and managing the underlying assets is critical to the performance of these funds. Investors are encouraged to review the fund's objectives, investment strategies, and past performance (where applicable) before making investment decisions.
As NEPSE continues to evolve, the regular listing of new financial instruments like these closed-end funds underscores the market's growth trajectory and its commitment to offering a wider spectrum of investment products. The commencement of trading for SAEF2 and LSH12 this Thursday will undoubtedly be a keenly watched event, marking a new chapter for both the fund managers and the broader investor community in Nepal. This development reinforces the potential for sustained growth and diversification within the Nepalese capital market, providing more avenues for wealth creation and portfolio optimization.
